Middle school students recently participated in two hands-on Career and Technical Education (CTE) activities connected to their seventh grade curriculum. As part of the agriculture module students visited Windy Hill Orchard, where they explored the process of growing, harvesting and preparing apples. Through Cornell Cooperative Extension’s apple tasting program, students learned about different apple varieties, local agriculture and the importance of New York State’s farming industry. The experience allowed students to connect classroom concepts to real-world agricultural practices.
In alignment with their health careers module, students also welcomed a guest speaker from Kunkel Ambulance. Students learned about emergency medical services, the responsibilities of EMTs and paramedics, and the essential role they play in community health. The session offered students valuable insight into health-related career pathways while giving them the chance to ask questions and interact with a professional in the field. These engaging experiences supported students' understanding of CTE pathways and helped them make meaningful connections between their coursework and future career opportunities.
