Mrs. Almy's 4th-grade students engaged in activities on September 30 to learn about why apples change color when exposed to air, the process known as oxidation. Jefferson students made a hypothesis using their senses and prior knowledge about what would happen to an apple in different situations. The students had a control group and two variable groups, one with lime juice and one with baking soda. Learning about an apple’s life cycle and the specific parts of it also helped the students with their vocabulary development. We are so fortunate to partner with Cornell Cooperative Extension to provide this wonderful agriculture in the classroom opportunity for our Jefferson students.
